IFA Redfish Tour Makes News in Port Aransas, Texas.
For immediate release
The IFA Redfish Tour Presented by Cabela's had a great turnout for the 2007 season kickoff
tournament in Port Aransas this past weekend. The Texas division opener of a 2nd year for the new and
improved regionalized one-day format guaranteeing 1st place boat prize and 100% payback for each event is
attracting anglers throughout the south.
PORT ARANSAS, TX — May 05, 2007 — 85 teams registered to compete for the 1st place prize of a Ranger Banshee
rigged with a 40 HP, 4-stroke Yamaha outboard, Loadmaster trailer, Power Pole shallow water anchor, Minn Kota
trolling motor and Humminbird electronics.
The 1st place prize of a fully rigged Ranger Banshee, valued at approximately $20,000, went to the talented team
of Captain Glen Watts and partner Mike Miller for the 8.62-pound and 7.53-pound redfish they brought to the
scales on Saturday, giving them a two-fish total weight of 16.15-pounds and 200 points towards the Cabela's Texas
Divisional Team of the Year race. Watts and Miller caught their fish on gold spoons, soft plastics, and Triple Play
Spinner Baits. "We only caught 4 fish all day, and 2 of them were the right ones. We don't always find those big
ones right in our backyard, but they were there today," said Glen Watts. "We are looking forward to fishing the
other 2 Texas events, and then the Championship." Watts and Miller also received an additional $500 for Big Fish
of the tournament, with a one-fish weight of 8.62 pounds.
Captain Kevin Akin and partner Danny Gonzalez also walked away with their 2nd place awards and a check in the
amount of $4,234.00. Akin and Gonzalez brought in a two-fish team weight of 15.63-pounds and earned 199 points
towards the Cabela's Texas Divisional Team of the Year race. 3rd place and a $2,540 check went to the team of
Captain Kent Turner of Pattison, Texas and partner Amil Reznick, JR., of Sealy, Texas with a two-fish total weight
of 15.40-pounds. Bagleys Gold spoons were the ticket for Turner and Renick. They managed a total of 6 reds and
15 big trout today, and had a run-in with a really big slot Red who gained his freedom just out of reach of the net.
Jay Survant and Corey Survant received the Ranger Cup - Powered by Yamaha Bonus of $750.00. To learn more
about the Ranger Cup bonus program, please visit www.rangerboats.com. The Solar Bat Sunglasses $100.00 Team
Award was not claimed at Port Aransas, so the amount will carry forward to Lafitte, LA., where the Solar Bat
Sunglasses bonus will be $200.00 for the highest finishing team who wears Solar Bats while fishing, weighing in,
and mentioning Solar Bat while on stage.
"It was really good to get this kind of participation for the Texas kick off of the 2007 season. A thanks goes out to
all the teams that came out to fish with us and help our sport continue to improve. We hope to keep up this trend
